New City of North Vancouver Skate Plaza – Design Workshop

It seems Vancouver is not the only city in our local area working out the details of a new skate park. With Vancouver Plaza under fire with new developments in the area, New Westminister’s Queensborough Park is in the midst of debating their new home and it now seems the City of North Vancouver (home of our beloved City Fest) is now going to redevelop the Lonsdale Skate Park and is looking for feedback. // read more

Sidewalk Skate Session: Chinatown DIY Kicker

Typically we only skate the closest and most obvious spots to our skateshop under the cover of darkness. Less pedestrians, cooler outside, and more time to generally lurk and skateboard versus hit it and quit it. Every now and then we get a little frisky on a Sunday night out front of the store. ChinatownYVR gets quiet after the daily hustle and Sunday nights shops tend to close a bit earlier. With some warm setting sunlight through the Downtown Vancouver high-rises, some of the Flatspot Longboard Shop team pulled out one of the DIY kickers onto the sidewalk and started a little impromptu skate session. // read more

Chinatown Locals: Danny Smith and Andrew Grant Skateboarding Home Turf

There’s a lot of skateboarding happening in Chinatown and the Downtown Eastside as a whole. From the classic Vancouver ‘it’ spot, Plaza, to crusty DIY and just making due with what there is. Some come to Chinatown to seek out spots and skate something different than their own hood, but for Flatspot Team riders Danny Smith and Andrew Grant, this is their home. I don’t mean that in some kind of ‘I’m a local’ generality either, these guys live right here in the heart of Chinatown and some of the gnarliest DTES has to offer…. that is until they slab over it with high-rise condos. #Resist
