Welcome to the Flatspot Weekly. Where we take a synopsis of whatever is epic and rad and wrap it all into one big post to inspire and excite your skate nerves!

Sho Stopper Release Video

Well kids, this is a burly one. If you are planning on emulating the things you see in this video, take a moment to let this sink in: Don’t. For a longer explanation of follow car filming and how to not do it, click here. That being said. This edit is entirely follow car filming and absolutely insane. It keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time without a single moment of rest. If you need something to wake you up in the morning, this video might be a good choice.

Flatspot X Valhalla Highway Jam X

Sho Ouellette has been an unstoppable force of gnar since the first day he walked into the shop. Probably before that too, we just didn’t know. Its hard to think of someone who skates more regularly and with such skill an this kid. He puts in the time and work and it shows. This year he went to Japan and Colombia, and has been otherwise killing it on the homefront here in Vancouver. Super stoked to be able to celebrate his new Pro-Model with our 10th Highway Jam!

What happens to race wheels when they retire? Sometimes they get the loving attention they deserve and are gradually skated into nothing. But sometimes they get left in a box and forgotten. We take those forgotten and spent race wheels and turn them down into freeride wheels so that they can spend the rest of their happy days being shredded down to the core. Adopt a set of refurbished flatspot lathe wheels and know you are giving these little shred balls the gnar home they deserve.

Rad Disadvantages

The Rad Disadvatage wheels are turned down from scrubbed Rad Advantages. How we make these race wheels into sweet freerides is no secret. We them down to get ride of any coning, cut off the lips and radius the edges. These work amazingly as a freeride wheel, wear rather slowly, and at 71mm have a lot of life in them!

Rad Degenerates

The Flatspot Degenerates are made from Rad Advantages that are particularly thrashed. Meaning, we only make a set of Degenerates when we get a set of Advantages that have been skated down to around 65mm. We lathe them down into a small, sideset freeride shape, which are WAY more fun than their previous existence as torched lipped wheels.

Hawgs Biggie Smalls

We make these epic centerset freerides by taking scrubbed Biggie Hawgs and cutting off the beef. With the same long lasting urethane and supportive core in the standard Biggies, these are gonna be an exceptionally durable freeride wheel. The Biggie Smalls have a larger contact patch, which makes them ideal if you want to be able to shed speed and still grip lines. And because they are centerset you can flip your wheels and get an even wear all the way down to the core!

Arbor Highground

So lets tell you a wee bit about this lovely plank. There are gas pedals in the front and the back, with subtle pockets just before which make for super comfy toe and heel pockets. The midsection of the board has steeper concave along the rails and a wide, mellow W-concave. This makes for a stiffer board with less torsional flex. Everything about this deck is meant to make you feel locked in while in a tuck and reduce the amount you need to shift your feet. Plus its got that super flossy koa bottom veneer!

Valhalla Sell Out

Ever watch Kings of the Mud? If you haven’t, do it now. If you have, you will know what I’m talking about. Which is that run at the end, that SUPER BURLY run. Well thats Cooper, a total and complete beast of a downhill skater who at one point road for Valhalla. Before his Valhalla pro-model was released he bounced for a new brand called Prism. Well Valhalla wasn’t about to not make his epic board, but to commemorate the events that have transpired, it is now called the Sellout. We’re not sure exactly what thats supposed to mean, probably something poetic about loss and impermanence. But that story aside, lets focus on the Valhalla Sellout Complete and not the gossip. Its a boat of a topmount with a mouth watering taper so you don’t have to be constantly shifting that back foot. With ALL of the mounting options. And like anything built for speed, its stiff as balls. Now go watch Kings of the Muddd again, its good for you.

Valhalla Sho Stopper

Its not easy to get your own Pro-Model. Sho Ouellette had to sell his soul and his first born child to get this, and make an oath to only lead his life on a destructive downhill path. But its hard to blame him when you see this totally sick board. Symmetrical to suite his freeridy style, wide and long for that stability at speed, with all the rocker and concave to keep you on top of the board and not skidding across the pavement. And that graphic! Its too good. To honor Shos loss we completed the Valhalla Sho Stopper with Paris Savants and Orangatang Skiffs, because why not slide that extra 25 ft?

Sector 9 Bomber

The sector 9 Bomber is a rad directional topmount speed board. A style of board that Sector 9 has traditionally made some of the nicest of in the industry for a lonnnng time. Sector 9 has been seamlessly combining rocker and concave in stiff topmost longer than anyone. One thing thats different with this board is that you will find it has an asymmetrical W-Concave. With a small portion of W in the front and a healthier serving of it in the back, while leaving a section towards the front totally flat for your front foot to have full mobility. Its all the W concave you need, only where you want it! Its constructed with maple as well as 4 plys of triaxial fibreglass for that long lasting rigidity. The resin/fibreglass construction also adds to the boards ability withstand wet conditions!

The Gel Lab with Ari Chamasmany

The Gel Lab is a crew of skaters from LA that come together on a weekly basis to skate garages. They also collaborate on music. So as a locally oriented shop here is Vancouver, why are we even wasting our breathe talking about these fellow kooks? Because they are doing it right, as MANY groups across north america are. They recently caught a moment on the youtube spotlight, so now is as good as any to talk about this. And by “this”, I mean weekly garage sessions.
