Discovered at a Virginia Beach contest by Neil Blender and Lance, a young Mike Vallely was asked to join the Powell-Peralta team and quickly rose to fame as a premier street skater. After initially rejecting the Roach graphic, Vallely worked closely with VCJ on an elephant theme. Mike and his elephant deck were both very popular.

Comet – Upcycle Cruiser – Deck
The Upcycle Project was born in spring the of 2013. On Comets first visit to PSSTIX, legendary skateboard manufacturer Paul Schmitt showed them a 5000 cubic foot dumpster full of veneer scraps. It all clicked. Comet asked Paul if we could make boards 100% out of that veneer if we spliced it together. Paul had the equipment already and just needed Comet to make the shapes and bring the message to skaters. Which brings us to today.
Skating as a form of commuting is good. Its better than driving places. Skating for fun is good, its better than boosting around on motor boats or rallying big ass trucks. And now, you can have your low impact (environmentally that is) fun in an even more environmentally conscious way. The Comet Upcycle board is made entirely of scrap veneers that were destined to be nothing cool at all. Think about it, if you were a scrap of wood wouldn’t you want to be a skateboard?
Here are the goodies we suggest you set up this rad little board so you can trash this trash!
If you are interested in recycled and repurposed skate waste, you will definitely be stoked on basically anything that James West makes. Check out his find wood working, using only thrashed old decks as his medium!
