Pantheon – Summit Series Gaia – Deck

Pantheon – Summit Series Gaia – Deck

The Gaia is back! This is a new take on the Gaia deck, with a new construction and a simplified design. Historically, the Gaia has always been one of our favorite decks to make. The classic single kick downhill/freeride board is a classic for good reason. They’re versatile, practical, and fun. This season’s Gaia gets rid of the microdrops and turns the platform into a fully rockered design with flush mounts to compensate for the rocker to get your trucks back to flat. We look forward to standing directly on top of the trucks this year and having full freedom across the entire length of the deck. We increased the size and angle of the kicktail, and the overall concave continues to be a fairly mellow progressive radial with no flat portions anywhere across the deck. This deck is all about vibe, with an oversized cruiser type of feel that will have you slashing carves in the neighborhood streets and equally ready to point that sucker downhill and rip some slides. Expect to be able to do just about anything on this board!

The Summit Series construction on the new Gaia has this board lighter than ever, which really increases the playfulness and brings new elements to this deck for cruising and lower speed play that the older models just didn’t quite match. The Gaia is light enough to comfortably push around, kick into the air, and easily flick out low speed slides, and it is stiff enough to manage any hill you can send it down. The fiberglass and poplar construction is waterproof, stiff, lightweight, and it won’t warp over time like all-maple decks sometimes do, regardless of weather conditions.

Set up the Gaia with anything from 150mm to 180mm trucks. We have set ours up here with 165mm trucks and centerset slide wheels for a super carvy setup that gets the edge of the wheels right near the edge of the board. You can make this work satisfactorily with 150mm trucks as well, and 180mm trucks will be more of that classic longboard carve setup that pushes the wheels out a bit. We believe the kick angle is just about perfect with the outer wheelbase on the back truck, but when you put 75mm+ wheels on this board, you may want to bring the wheelbase in to the inner option to keep that kick readily available. Either setup feels great, but the kick on this board really shines, and you’ll likely want to optimize it to your needs.

Pantheon – Summit Series Heirophant – Deck

Pantheon – Summit Series Heirophant – Deck

Eric Bourgeois is a Colorado local and Pantheon team rider who’s been working hand in hand with us since 2017 when he started making skateboards by hand with us out of Denver. We personally got to teach Eric how we wanted our rails routed and sanded, he even taught us a little about CNC programming, and we got to watch him learn the art of skateboard making in tandem with drastically improving his skating skills. It was immediately clear that this guy is intelligent and creative, and when he came to us wanting to create a pro model deck for him, we had to say yes, knowing that we would undoubtedly create something great together.

The Hierophant is that creation. Eric wanted to mimic the bowl nose of our Seed/Tortuga mold with a mellower concave and longer W-concave that allowed for more rear foot freedom on a classic top mount design. He also wanted longer wheelbase options and a wider deck to more closely match his trucks with freeride wheels, which are generally in the 150mm neighborhood. Lastly, he asked for a micro-tail, so he could kick the board around for fun at the top of the hill and easily kick the board up to his hand once he reached the bottom.

Couple those requirements with our design skills and attention to detail, matching the requested features with beautifully swoopy surf lines, flush mounts, and a killer graphic from Eddie Kihm, and I think we can safely say this is one of the sweetest looking and feeling boards ever made. The technical requirements to make this W concave and flush mount fit together perfectly are hard to explain, and they really don’t need to be, but we doubt you’ll see another board like this on the market. This is truly one-of-a-kind!

The Hierophant is built with our “Summit Series” construction, featuring a lightweight poplar core and urethane sidewalls, as well as urethane in the truck hole mounting area, creating a completely waterproof package out of the box. The deck will not warp over time and will withstand weather of all types. Though no deck is perfectly durable, expect the Hierophant to be able to take a beating, and if you do manage to bust it open, usually fixes with this type of construction don’t go further than a little epoxy and a clamp.

Setups on the Hierophant will vary in accordance with rider needs and preferences. In general, you’ll want a truck somewhere between 145mm and 180mm. The slimmer you go, the wider you’ll want your wheels to be, if you want to match the width of your deck. A 150mm truck and a mid-sized offset wheel is a really nice combo on the Hierophant, and you can run the deck symmetrically or asymmetrically and have it feel right. Just know that the platform itself is asymmetrical.

We went all out creating what our fan’s wanted; a freerider’s dream board with drop-through mounting and double kicks. The mold we designed for this board has a very comfortable and effective concave featuring rocker, foot flairs, and mellow “W” running down the center. All this combined locks you in for downhill and sliding at speed while still comfortable for pushing. The kick-tails are shaped wide and long enough to actually use them in a functional and confident way to drop off curbs and lift up the wheels when riding. The mold was specially designed to strengthen the kick-tails and increase the overall durability.

Double the pleasure with two kicks to leverage whatever tricks you can imagine! With the lowered platform created by the drop-through mounting and rocker combo, this board is perfect for LDP as well. It makes it our most versatile design that’s able to do it all! We highly recommend it for beginner riders learning to longboard. It’s low riding, meaning easy to push, stable at speed, and easy to learn how to slide on. The intermediate rider will enjoy progressing with this stiff drop-thru freeride deck featuring really useful kick-tails.

Constructed solid and stiff with 8 plies of the highest quality longboard grade maple and laminated in our special mold with a non-toxic waterproof glue. The board is stained black on both sides leaving some natural wood grain showing through. The rails are left unstained with the natural wood color to highlight the shape and contours. The graphic design, last updated in November 2021, incorporates a topographical map featuring the surrounding hills of the notorious Portland Zoo Bomb run.
