Construction and Flex
We are constructing these boards with a trusty 6-ply maple core. Outside of the maple core, we wrap the deck in triaxial fiberglass. This fiberglass makes the board much stronger and more weather resistant. Although not totally waterproof, the Pranayama will handle the elements all season long. Finally, outside of the fiberglass, we have two options: first, the classic wood veneer on our Gas Guzzler and Cosmic Turtle. This is an excellent “classic” construction and what we call our medium flex. The board will work great for a wide variety of riders, and we generally say the deck is good up to about 220 lbs, but once you’re getting over 190-195lbs, we start recommending the newest construction. Our Portal and Patanjali graphics feature our newest construction with a pre-preg fiberglass shell. This shell adds significant strength and changes the flex profile, so we run the same 6-ply core construction and that ends up being a “heavy flex,” and we slim it down to a 5-ply construction for a “light flex.” Generally speaking, we would recommend the light flex to anyone under 170 lbs, although it has been tested successfully up to 190 lbs, and we recommend the heavy flex anywhere from about 190 lbs to 250 lbs.
So how do you choose? Riders in those middle weight ranges who want a classic ride can definitely choose the classic construction. Lighter weight riders should choose the pre-preg constructions in the light flex, and heavy riders should choose the heavy flex. That much is simple. But if you’re a middle weight rider who wants a flexy cruiser experience, choose the Portal or Patanjali light flex options. And if you’re a middle weight rider who wants aggressive control at top pushing speeds, choose the Portal or Patanjali Heavy flex options. Hopefully I’ve made that clear!
Pantheon Pranayama Complete: The Ultimate Commuter Longboard
Meticulously Designed for Effortless Commuting. Riders worldwide consistently tell us that the Pranayama is the most used board in their quiver. This meticulously designed commuter longboard complete is truly utilitarian, with no extra frills and no wasted space. Use it to get where you’re going, and use it for fun!
Setting up Your Own Pranayama Commuter Longboard
Do you have 149mm street trucks and large wheels? Well, then you can probably use those parts to set this deck up yourself. Just make sure of a couple things: Use 1-inch panhead style hardware when running flat against the deck. We use 1 1/4″ with our drop-through risers. Use “drop-through” washers. These should have an ID of about 7/32″ and an OD of close to 1/2.” This will keep you from over-tightening your bolts. Make sure that you use TKP / Street-style trucks! RKP trucks will bite because of their axle placement You’ll want a 70mm wheel as your absolute minimum diameter. Typically we go for our 92mm Karma or 102mm Hoku wheels, as your commuter longboard benefits from large wheels! The downside of the larger wheel is added weight. The upside is increased momentum, softer ride, and more forgiveness on cracks or other objects in your path.
Selecting A Complete Pranayam
Featuring an extremely low ride height, lightweight design, comfortable flex, slim profile, and perfectly fitted components, this complete commuter longboard stands above all others in ease of use and fit. Combine with our large 92mm Karma or 102mm Hoku wheels and you will roll over just about anything in your path. Our 149mm Stylus trucks create an overall slim profile that allows riders to keep their push foot closer to their balance foot and center of gravity, resulting in greater balance and power. Pantheon designed the board specifically to fit these parts, even going so far as to design the trucks and wheels from scratch to fit our deck even better than the previous stock parts we were using.
The low standing platform allows for easier pushing and effortless foot braking. Beginners and experts alike will benefit from this greater efficiency. Riders will find themselves traveling further on a longboard than they originally thought possible.
Start with the Stock Setup
Because the Pranayama is designed specifically around street-style trucks, this complete commuter longboard will come alive on the streets in a way that you’ve never felt on a distance or commuter longboard. It may take a little getting used to, being so lively. Once you do, it’s a whole lot of fun, and you’ll find yourself outside riding further and longer than ever.

It may take a little getting used to, being so lively, but once you do, it’s a whole lot of fun, and you’ll find yourself outside riding further and longer than ever. While this board makes for an excellent distance commuter/cruiser at low speeds, it was ridden fully stock to a win at the 2019 Beijing Skateboard Marathon–its debut skateboard distance race!
Riders find that the Pranayama specifically maneuvers around foot traffic and road obstacles with greater speed and ease than most other longboards at high pushing speeds.
Although riders may find over time that they want to customize bushing setups, we recommend to most riders to ride it with stock bushings and give it a little bit of time to get used to it. Give your body the chance to build a little muscle memory and ankle strength. You will likely find yourself pushing faster and further than ever in just a couple weeks. Regardless of your weight, most riders take a liking to the stock bushings, but we of course recommend that you make it your own if you find a desire to make adjustments! If you’re very lightweight or quite heavy, you may consider bumping down or up from the stock 92a durometer. At 250 lbs, for example, you might consider riding 95a, or at 150 lbs, you might consider dropping to 87.5 or 90a.
Please note: do not set this board up RKP-style longboard trucks. The Pranayama is built for street trucks only, and putting the wrong setup on this board will cause wheel bite. If you’re going to put this together yourself, be sure you pay attention to our available options here and set it up very similarly, and you’re assured to have a uniquely awesome riding experience.
Pantheon TKP Trucks
Our Pantheon Stylus 149mm trucks were specially designed for our boards in a way that no other truck really has been before. For starters, you can fit regular sized bushings on this truck! We include it with double barrel bushings, and the board side bushing is what we call a “plug barrel,” which fills the space in the hanger for the kingpin hole and reduces slop. This makes the trucks extra reactive, but one of the great things about our Pantheon TKP is that it reacts very well to bushing adjustments when tightening down the kingpin nut. If it’s too much for you, simply turn the kingpin nut a half turn and see how you like it. Need more? Turn it another half turn. or you can start considering bumping or down in bushing durometer.
Wheel Options
We recommend one of two wheel setups with this board for most users. The first is the standard 92mm Karma wheels setup. We originally created these wheels for this board, specifically, and they are both quite large and also quite lightweight. For a tall and skinny wheel, the Karma are the grippiest you’ll find in their class. Excellent for maximizing control, whether that means more grip in a corner or a little more feedback once you break traction and push these wheels into a slide. The Karmas are consistent and they also leave the most room for looser bushing setups.
Option 2 is what we call our “steamroller setup.” Our 102mm Hoku wheels are absolutely massive. They’ll steamroll over just about anything in their path. The upside? Huge momentum, with a ton of roll speed, and you get two durometer options (74a green and 78a pink) to adapt to your conditions. For hotter climates, go 78a. For cooler climates, go with the 74a. The downside to this setup? The only thing you’re really giving up here with weight. The wheels add about 1 pound to the entire setup, which you can feel during acceleration. If you’ve got choppy roads and you’re doing a lot of straight riding, there’s nothing better. If you’re going to do a ton of stop and go, consider sizing down the the lighter weight Karma wheels. The key to the Hoku setup is to add the drop-through risers. This lowers the board back down to “stock height” and just makes this board feel like an absolute cheater setup.
