Thousands of artistic graphic illustrations, from motorcycles to health food and including rock posters, surf, and skateboard art, jump off these pages. Bold and dynamic “bad boy” and “hippie” themes in bright and startling colors command your attention with incredible detail. Jim Phillips delights in original imagery to convey his unique reflections of the popular world. Since 1962, he has published award-winning graphic designs for cartoons, skateboards, T-shirts, stickers, rock posters, and ad art. The works assembled for this book, from collections world-wide, represent over fifty years of creativity and document the powerful youth movement in America.
Adam Reber and legendary artist Jimbo Phillips have teamed up for Keep On Pushing a coming of age children’s story about a boy and his skateboard, and how the skateboard helps the boy navigate through life. It reflects elements from some of the most notable children’s books, by displaying perseverance and unconditional love.
In 2003 the SKATEBOARDMUSEUM premiered the first exhibition with the title “Skateboard-Fever” focusing on the history, culture and artistic side of skateboarding. Diving deeper into the many facets of skateboard history, the SKATEBOARDMUSEUM has hosted various specially themed traveling exhibits in major metropolises around the world.
For the exhibitions the SKATEBOARDMUSEUM had created special zines. Those zines were just available at the shows and in a very limited run. This box-collection contains those zines in an updated version with more exhibits and pictures of the exhibitions.
Included zines:
1. DIY – The History of Creative-Culture in Skateboarding
2. Harry Blitzstein – Welcome to the Jungle / The Art of Harry Blitzstein on Skateboards
3. I LOVE MY – Vans skateboarding footwear heritage
4. NO SHITTY ADS IN THIS ZINE – A comprehensive 1980’s skate zine retrospective
5. NO AGE LIMIT! – Punk and Hardcore flyers collection of Jason Jessee
City Blights Magazine, Volume 4: The Advertising Issue. Created in the Spring of 2017, this magazine is 100% fake ads: all filler, no killer. The New Yorker this is not, look elsewhere for 3000 word expository articles on the joys of banality. But if snark and sillyness is what you seek, boy howdy do we have the publication for you.
