How do I change my bearings?

Changing bearings is not nearly as hard as it may look, but we understand it can feel a bit daunting. There are lots of videos on the internet that can help. Here are the basics. Wheels are held onto your trucks with a nut securing the bearings on the wheel and the truck axel. Removing the ‘axel nuts’ holding the wheel assemblies to the trucks will release the wheel and bearings. Once you have released the wheel and the bearings from the truck axel, you will use the end of the axel to remove the bearing from the wheel. Using just the tip, ha ha, of the axel, insert the axel into one bearing on either side of the wheel at a time. * Your skateboard has 4 wheels, each wheel has 2 bearings, each bearing sits in a ‘seat’ on either side of the wheel ‘core’. Use the bearing like a bottle opener and imagine the axel is bottle and you want to take the cap off. put the axel into the bearing and pop the bearing out of the wheel. Do this for both sides of each wheel, 8 times in total.

With the bearings removed from the wheels, replace each bearing in each side of each wheel, 8 total once again, and ensure the bearing is pressed firmly into each side of each wheel all the way to the bearing seat in the middle. *Most bearings come with spacers, some bearings have spacers built in, how you assemble the bearings in the wheel will be slightly different depending on whether you have spacers and if those spacers are loose or built into the bearing. Ask us for help if you are unsure.

Now that you have installed the new bearings, 2 per wheel, 1 on each side, 8 in total, and ensured you have any spacers assembled correctly, you will reinstall the axel nots to hold your wheels to the trucks. Please be mindful of any speed rings, the little washers that go on either side of the wheel assembly. Speed rings are typically built in if the spacers are built in (Zealous, Spaceballs etc), but speed rings will be separate otherwise with individual standard skate bearings (Bones Reds, Bronson G2 etc). Your final assembly should be [ Speed ring (washer) | Bearing | Spacer | Bearing | Speed ring | Nut ]. However if you have built in bearings it will be [ Bearing | Bearing | Nut ].

How do I grip my board?

We will apply grip for you if you leave us a note on your order to apply it. Did you order a board and grip and want to grip it yourself? Cool, we like the initiative. DIY or DIE! Gripping a board is not as ahrd as it might seem. There are lots of videos on the internet showing how to and there are not a lot of different ways to do it, unless you are trying to be artistic. Art it up. The basics remain the same. You will need a board, grip, a skate tool and a blade. We recommend removing your trucks and wheels and any old grip if this is an old board. If this is a new board, grip the board before you install trucks and wheels. Assuming you have a clean board, apply the griptape as you would like on your board, remembering to install any implants you might want under your grip like flip strips or backstops. Once the grip is on your board, using the skate tool or a file, score the grip by rubbing the tool or file along the grip at the edge of the board so that you can see the outline of the board coming through the top of the griptape. Using the blade, this could be a razor, box cutter or whatever, follow the scored outline of your board with the blade to cut the extra grip away from the board and leaving the board deck gripped. If you have done this well, it should cut with one continuous, satisfying slide around the whole board.

My product is the wrong size! Can I get a different size?

If you order a size specific product and it doesn’t fit it is possible to get it replaced for a better fit.

If we sent you the wrong size than we will swap it out at no cost to you. It doesn’t happen often, but we all make mistakes and we will do everything we can to ensure you get the size you ordered.

If you ordered the incorrect size we will ask you to pay for the shipping required to replace the product.

Our mistake is our expense, your mistake is your expense.

Please email us at info@flatspotlongboards.com if you received the wrong size and include your order number in the subject line.

Does my purchase come with a warranty?

Generally Yes. However, unless it is a Flatspot manufactured product, that warranty is supplied by the manufacturer and not by Flatspot. Typically. the only type of product that qualifies for a warranty is one with a factory defect. That means that the product was never manufactured properly in the first place. If your product is either not to spec or performs inadequately email us describing your problem. Make sure to include photos and your order number or copy of the receipt. If it is indeed a factory defect we will work with you and the manufacturer to help ensure that your product is appropriately replaced. This may require you to ship the defective product to us or the manufacturer before we can replacement it. Approved warranties will not be a cost to you.

Some examples of warranties include: A warped board, mis-pored or “swirled” wheels, bubbly or off-duro bushings, delaminating boards or wheels that separate from their core, etc.

Incorrect sizing is not a factory defect.

Please email us at info@flatspotlongboards.com if you are concerned about a warranty issue.
